Quick answer

Requesting a loan takes three steps: submit a short form (soft credit pull, no obligation), review the lender's offer (amount, APR, term, fee, payment), then e-sign and receive funds — typically the next business day. The whole thing happens online.

The process in 60 seconds

Whether you go to Personify directly or use our request form, online installment lending follows the same choreography. You give basic information, the lender runs a soft inquiry and checks your bank activity, and you get a decision in minutes. If you like the offer you sign; if not, nothing happens to your credit. What differs is who sees your request: Personify's form goes to Personify (and, if you're declined, to its "participating creditors"); ours goes to a network of lenders from the start.

Request

Amount, state, income, pay frequency, bank account, contact details. 2 minutes.

Verify

Soft credit inquiry plus a read-only bank connection to confirm income and deposits.

Review offer

APR, term, origination fee, payment schedule and total cost shown in writing.

Sign & fund

E-sign the agreement. Funds arrive next business day in most cases.

Step 1 — Fill out the request form

The request form (on this page and our home page) asks for the loan amount you want (between $500 and $15,000), your state, employment and income, how you're paid, your bank account type, and how to reach you. It also asks for your Social Security number and date of birth, because federal law requires lenders to verify identity before opening an account. Everything is transmitted over 256-bit SSL.

Two tips: ask for what you need, not the maximum — smaller amounts are approved more often and cost less — and use the income figure you can prove through your bank statements, because that is what the lender will check.

Step 2 — Soft credit check and bank verification

Lenders in the Personify category say they "look beyond the credit score". In practice that means a soft inquiry (which does not lower your score) combined with a look at your bank account: deposit regularity, average balance, overdrafts and existing loan payments. This is why a checking account is a hard requirement. Personify specifically states that there is no impact to your credit score until you accept a loan.

A soft inquiry is visible only to you. A hard inquiry — recorded when you accept a loan — can trim a few points for up to a year. Checking offers through several lenders does not stack hard inquiries, because none of them pulls hard until you sign.

Step 3 — Review the offer carefully

An offer must show the APR, the finance charge, the total of payments and the payment schedule — that's the Truth in Lending Act. For Personify loans, also look for the origination fee (5%–5.99%, added to the balance rather than deducted, which means you pay interest on the fee) and whether the loan qualifies for the Rate Reduction program. Here is what a $3,000 offer at 107.54% APR over 36 months looks like in plain numbers:

ItemAmount
Principal$3,000
Monthly payment (36 payments)$281.67
Total of payments$10,140.12
Finance charge$7,140.12

If the number in the "total of payments" box makes you wince, that is the moment to decline, shorten the term, or borrow less. Nothing is owed until you sign.

Step 4 — E-sign and receive your money

Signing is electronic. Personify deposits funds the next business day if you sign by 11:59 PM Central, and says it can take up to two business days; weekends and bank holidays push the date. Most lenders in our network run on the same clock. Money lands in the checking account you verified in step 2, and the first payment is usually due with your next paycheck cycle or 30 days later, depending on the lender.

After funding: repayment, early payoff and credit reporting

  • Autopay is optional but the easiest way to avoid late fees — and, for Personify loans, to stay eligible for rate reductions after six consecutive on-time payments.
  • No prepayment penalty. Personify and most online installment lenders let you pay off early; interest stops accruing on the paid balance. At triple-digit APRs, every month you cut saves real money.
  • Credit reporting. Personify reports to the major bureaus, so the loan can help your score if you pay on time — and hurt it if you don't.

Neither route is "better" in every case. If you are in one of Personify's 27 states and want that specific lender, go direct. If you want to compare, or you live in a state Personify doesn't serve, a network request makes more sense.

The three decisions that determine what you pay

Everything about the cost of an installment loan is set in the ten minutes between seeing the offer and signing it. Three choices matter: the amount (borrow the bill, not the limit), the term (shorter is cheaper; 24 months versus 48 can halve the interest), and the payment frequency (bi-weekly aligned to payday is the easiest to keep, and it counts toward rate reductions). A fourth decision — whether to sign at all — is the most important one. A soft-inquiry offer costs nothing to walk away from.

Mistakes we see in borrower complaints

  • Reading the monthly payment and not the total of payments.
  • Accepting the maximum offered because "it was approved".
  • Taking 48 months to minimise the payment, then carrying the loan to term.
  • Linking a secondary bank account with little activity, failing verification, and being declined for a reason that had nothing to do with credit.
  • Missing the first payment because the due date was set to a pay cycle that didn't match.

People also ask about the process

How do I know if my Personify loan was approved?

Personify's FAQ: automatic approvals come as an instant on-screen decision; otherwise you receive next-step instructions, usually a document request. If you see neither, check spam for the email and log in to the portal.

Can I change the amount or term after I see the offer?

Yes — Personify's application lets you adjust the amount and choose the term before you sign, and the payment updates on screen. This is the moment to shorten the term and lower the amount. Nothing is final until you e-sign.

Is there a balloon payment?

No. Personify loans are fully amortising with equal installments; the final payment may differ by a few dollars because of rounding and the exact day interest accrues.

What if I need to cancel after signing?

Personify publishes no rescission window. Call 1-888-578-9546 immediately. Before disbursement the loan may be cancellable; after disbursement, repaying the full principal within days costs only a few days' interest, because there is no prepayment penalty. The origination fee, once charged, is unlikely to be refunded.

How is this different from applying at personify.com?

On personify.com your request is reviewed first for a Personify / First Electronic Bank loan and only then, if declined, passed to participating creditors. Our form sends your request to several lenders at once, so you can compare. Neither route costs anything, neither affects your score to check, and neither obliges you to accept.

How long does the money take to arrive in my bank?

Personify: next business day after e-signing by 11:59 PM CT, up to two business days. Your bank's posting policy adds anything from minutes to a day. Approvals on Friday evening typically fund Tuesday.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the whole process take?

About two minutes to request, minutes to see an offer, and next business day for funding when you e-sign before the lender's cut-off (Personify's is 11:59 PM Central).

Do I need to upload pay stubs?

Usually not. Personify and most online installment lenders verify income by linking your bank account through a secure aggregator such as Plaid. Some lenders may ask for documents if the automatic check is inconclusive.

Can I apply by phone?

Personify only accepts online applications. Our request form is online as well.

What if I'm declined?

Personify now states that it passes declined applicants to participating creditors. Our network does the same thing from the start: one request goes to multiple lenders. You can also improve your odds by requesting a smaller amount.

Does Personify have an app?

No. Apply and manage the loan through the mobile-friendly site and Borrower Portal.

Can I apply for Personify over the phone?

No. Online only.

Why was I asked for more documents?

The automatic identity or income check was inconclusive. Submit them promptly; applications expire if you don't.

Will I get the full amount I requested?

Not necessarily. Offers are sized to verified income and cash flow; many first-time borrowers are offered less than requested.

What time does Personify fund loans?

Next business day for agreements e-signed by 11:59 PM Central. Weekends and holidays delay funding.
