Quick answer

Personify Financial reviews are polarised in a predictable way: 4.8/5 on Trustpilot (12,800+ reviews) and an A+ BBB rating from borrowers praising speed and approval, versus CFPB complaints and consumer-group criticism focused on 36%–179.50% APR and the bank-partner model. Both are accurate. The loan is easy to get and expensive to keep.

What five-star reviews say

  • Speed. "Approved in minutes, money the next morning" is the single most repeated theme.
  • Approval after rejection. Many reviewers say banks, credit unions or other online lenders had declined them.
  • Easy application. Done on a phone, no documents uploaded, bank link handled verification.
  • Customer service. Agents described as patient and reachable (Mon–Fri 8am–9pm, Sat 8am–5pm CT).
  • Repeat use. A visible share of reviewers are on a second or third loan, often citing a lower rate the second time.

What one-star reviews say

  • The total. Borrowers who did not read the total-of-payments line before signing are shocked when the first statements arrive. At 120%+ APR the first months are nearly all interest.
  • The fee. The 5%–5.99% origination fee is added to the balance; some reviewers expected the stated amount to be the whole debt.
  • Collections. Frequent calls after missed payments, and confusion when a loan is transferred to Personify Loan Services.
  • State issues. A handful of complaints from Washington and other non-licensed states where loans were made through the bank partner.

Reading tip: filter Trustpilot to one and two stars and sort by recent. That is where the information is. Five-star reviews written the day of funding tell you about the application, not the loan.

CFPB complaints and consumer-group criticism

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's public database contains complaints naming Applied Data Finance / Personify, mostly under "problem when making payments", "charged fees or interest you didn't expect" and "struggling to pay". In March 2023, ten consumer groups led by the National Consumer Law Center asked the FDIC to downgrade First Electronic Bank's Community Reinvestment Act rating, citing Personify and OppFi loans at up to 180% APR as "rent-a-bank" evasion of state rate caps. NPR reported one Personify borrower's 97.1% APR loan in 2022. None of this alleges that borrowers didn't receive their money; all of it concerns price and state law.

Lawsuits

Derosier v. Applied Data Finance (Florida, class action, settled and dismissed 2020) and Saechao v. Personify Financial (N.D. Cal., TCPA, 2020) are the two cases that surface in public dockets. Neither resulted in a finding of fraud. We are not aware of pending regulatory enforcement actions against Personify as of October 22, 2026.

Our reading of the reviews

Personify does what it says: fast money for people other lenders turn down, at a price that reflects that risk. Reviews are positive because the experience of getting the loan is good. Complaints are negative because the experience of repaying it at triple-digit APR is not. If you take a Personify-type loan, the reviews suggest three rules: borrow the minimum, set up autopay to earn rate reductions, and pay it off early.

Review themes by platform, counted

We read the most recent 100 reviews on Trustpilot and all 63 SuperMoney reviews and tagged each by theme. Approximate shares:

Our tagging, one reviewer per review, themes can overlap. Not a scientific sample; the point is the shape, which is unmistakable.

How to use reviews before you sign

  1. Ignore star averages on invited platforms.
  2. Read one-star reviews sorted by recent; look for process failures (verification, funding, servicing) rather than cost complaints — cost is disclosed up front.
  3. Search the CFPB database for the lender and filter by your state.
  4. Check whether the lender responds to complaints on BBB; a response rate near 100% means billing disputes get handled.
  5. Compare against two or three alternatives, not in isolation.

Common questions from the reviews

Why are Trustpilot and SuperMoney so different?

Trustpilot reviews are invited the day a loan funds — the high point of the customer journey — and 82% are five stars. SuperMoney reviews are uninvited and typically written months later, and 53 of 63 say "not recommended". Same product, different moment. Read both: Trustpilot tells you the application works, SuperMoney tells you what carrying the loan feels like.

Do borrowers report problems getting funded?

Mostly no — next-day funding is the most praised feature. The exceptions cluster around failed bank-login verification and document requests, where some reviewers describe waits of two to three weeks. If your bank connection fails, submit documents the same day.

Do reviewers say Personify helps in hardship?

Mixed. Personify's FAQ says help "may be available"; several SuperMoney reviewers say they were offered nothing during job loss. Hardship options exist but are discretionary and unpublished. Call early, ask specifically for a due-date change or short deferment, and get any arrangement in writing.

Is the "pre-approval letter" real?

Personify mails prescreened offers. Reviewers note that the final offer can be smaller or pricier than the letter because the letter is based on bureau data, not on verified income. Treat the letter as an invitation, not a promise.

What about the arbitration clause?

Personify's loan agreement contains an arbitration provision with a class-action waiver, which one reviewer objected to. This is standard in online lending. Some agreements allow you to opt out within 30–60 days by writing to the lender; check yours.

Are there Personify complaints at the CFPB?

Yes. The NCLC's 2023 letter counted 176 complaints naming Applied Data Finance / Personify at that time; the database has grown since. The dominant categories are cost of the loan, problems when struggling to pay, and collections contact. The database is public and searchable; we link it below.

4.8 out of 5 from more than 12,800 reviews as of October 2026, with the large majority at five stars.

What is Personify's BBB rating?

A+, and BBB-accredited since 2015. The BBB profile also lists customer complaints, mostly about cost and collections.

Are the positive reviews real?

Trustpilot marks most as verified, meaning the reviewer was invited after a real transaction. Invited reviews skew positive on every platform, so read the one- and two-star reviews for the failure modes.

What do negative Personify reviews complain about?

Total cost after the first statements, origination fee surprise, collection calls after missed payments, and loans in states where consumer groups argue Personify should not lend at those rates.

Does PersonifyFinancialUSA.com write reviews of Personify?

We summarise public reviews and sources; we do not post our own star rating and we are not affiliated with Personify.

What is Personify's BBB complaint count?

Finder's 2025 review counted 62 BBB complaints alongside a 4.81/5 average from 702 BBB customer reviews. Counts change; check the BBB profile for current numbers.

Are the five-star reviews fake?

Trustpilot marks most as verified post-transaction reviews. They are real but collected at the moment of funding, which skews positive.

Where can I read uninvited Personify reviews?

SuperMoney's community reviews, Reddit threads, and the CFPB complaint database.

Does PersonifyFinancialUSA.com accept reviews?

Not yet. We summarise public platforms rather than host our own ratings.
