Personify Financial loan requirements
What the lender checks, what it doesn't publish, and how to improve your chances before you request.
On this page

To qualify for a Personify Financial loan you must be 18 or older, have verifiable income, a personal checking account, a valid email address, and live in one of Personify's 27 lending states. There is no published minimum credit score; bad credit is considered, but it raises your APR.
Personify's published requirements
personify.com lists four items under "What do I need?": you must be at least 18, have a valid email address, have verifiable income, and have a personal checking account. Behind those four lines sit the checks every online installment lender runs: identity verification (name, address, date of birth, SSN, sometimes a photo ID), a soft credit pull, and a bank-account review for income and cash flow. Loan proceeds may not be used for business purposes or post-secondary education.
Credit score: what actually matters
Personify positions itself for borrowers who were "denied elsewhere" and says it looks beyond the score. That is accurate, with a catch: the score still drives the price. A borrower in the high 600s might see an offer near 36% APR (or be routed to a participating creditor below 36%); a borrower in the low 500s is more likely to see 120%–179.50%. Scores aren't the only input, either. Lenders weigh:
- Income stability — regular deposits over the last 60–90 days matter more than the headline salary.
- Cash-flow headroom — how much is left after rent, existing loan payments and overdrafts.
- Payment history on other obligations — recent delinquencies and collections weigh heavily.
- Existing high-cost debt — open payday or installment loans reduce what you'll be offered.
Improves your odds: request a smaller amount, clean up overdrafts for a month before requesting, and make sure your bank login works — most declines we hear about are failed income verification, not credit.
Income and employment
There is no published minimum income. Personify and similar lenders care that income is verifiable and recurring: W-2 wages, 1099 contract income, self-employment deposits, pensions, Social Security, disability and alimony are all commonly considered when they show up in your checking account on a schedule. Cash income that never hits a bank account is effectively invisible to the verification process.
Why a checking account is non-negotiable
Three reasons. The lender deposits funds there, debits payments from there, and — most importantly — reads 60–90 days of transactions to confirm your income without pay stubs. A savings-only account or prepaid card usually won't work, and an account with frequent NSF (insufficient funds) events is a red flag.

Residency: the 27-state list
You must live in a state where Personify is licensed or where its bank partner can lend. As of October 22, 2026 that is 27 states; New Mexico and South Carolina were dropped. If you live elsewhere, Personify isn't an option — but our request form still reaches lenders that serve your state. Full list with per-state loan limits →
Documents to have ready
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| Government-issued ID | Identity verification (federal "Know Your Customer" rules) |
| Social Security number | Credit check and identity match |
| Bank login or routing/account numbers | Income verification, deposit and payments |
| Employer name and pay frequency | Income verification and payment scheduling |
| Email and mobile number | E-sign documents and account access |
Who typically will not qualify
- Under 18, or no U.S. checking account
- Active bankruptcy
- Income that cannot be verified
- Residents of non-lending states (for Personify specifically)
- Borrowing for business or tuition
- Multiple open high-cost loans with recent missed payments
If one of these describes you, a credit-union Payday Alternative Loan, a secured loan or a payment plan with your creditor may be the better path. We say so because a loan you can't repay helps no one, including us.
Pre-application checklist
| Requirement | Personify | Most lenders in our network |
|---|---|---|
| Age | 18+ (19 in Alabama) | 18+ |
| Residency | 27 states | Most states |
| Income | Verifiable, no minimum published | Verifiable; some set $1,000–$1,500/month minimums |
| Bank account | Personal checking, online login | Personal checking |
| Credit score | No minimum published; ~500+ in practice | Varies; some accept no score |
| SSN | Required | Required; a few accept ITIN |
| Active bankruptcy | Disqualifying | Usually disqualifying |
| Military (MLA) | 36% MAPR cap applies | 36% MAPR cap applies |
Why applications get declined, in order of frequency
- Income could not be verified — failed bank link, cash income, irregular deposits.
- Cash-flow headroom too thin — rent, existing loan debits and overdrafts leave no room for a payment.
- Open high-cost loans — several active payday or installment loans visible in bank data.
- Recent severe delinquency — a charge-off or collection within the last few months.
- Identity mismatch — name, address or DOB that doesn't match bureau records.
- State — living outside the lender's footprint.
Note what is missing from that list: a low credit score on its own. A 520 with steady deposits and no overdrafts is a better applicant than a 620 with three open payday loans.
People also ask about qualifying
Why does Personify ask me to log in to my bank?
To verify identity and income automatically and to make sure funds go to an account you control. Personify's FAQ says login details are not stored. The connection is read-only through an aggregator such as Plaid; it reads 60–90 days of transactions. If your bank is not supported or the connection fails, the application pauses for documents — and SuperMoney reviews include at least one denial for exactly that reason. Use your primary account, not a secondary one with little activity.
What documents might Personify ask for?
Usually none. When the automatic checks are inconclusive you may be asked for a government ID, recent pay stubs or bank statements, or proof of address. Personify's FAQ notes that applications expire if requested documents are not submitted in time, so respond the same day.
Can I qualify with a recent bankruptcy, collections or a prior default?
An active bankruptcy is generally disqualifying. A discharged bankruptcy, old collections or a prior default do not automatically disqualify you — Personify explicitly serves borrowers "denied elsewhere" — but they push the APR toward the top of the range. Recent payday-loan activity in your bank statements is weighed heavily.
Does Personify accept non-citizens or ITIN applicants?
Personify's application asks for a Social Security number and third-party reviewers list U.S. citizenship or permanent residency among the requirements. ITIN-only applicants are unlikely to qualify with Personify; some lenders in our network do accept ITINs.
Can I apply with someone else or add a co-signer?
No. Personify loans are individual. A spouse or partner with stronger credit would apply separately.
Does Personify lend to active-duty military?
The Military Lending Act caps most consumer credit to active-duty service members and dependents at 36% Military APR. Personify's standard loans exceed that, so covered borrowers will either be declined or routed to participating creditors under 36%. The application asks about military status; answer accurately.
How can I improve my chances before applying?
- Have 60–90 days of regular income deposits in one checking account.
- Avoid overdrafts and NSF events for at least a month.
- Close or pay down open payday loans.
- Request a smaller amount.
- Make sure your bank's online login works before you start.
Frequently asked questions
What credit score do I need for Personify Financial?
Personify does not publish a minimum score and says it weighs income, bank activity and payment history as well as credit. Third-party reviewers report approvals in the low-to-mid 500s. Expect APR near the top of the 36%–179.50% range at those scores.
Does Personify accept self-employed or gig income?
Yes, if it is verifiable through your bank deposits. Irregular deposits can lower the amount offered.
Can I qualify on Social Security or disability income?
Lenders may consider benefit income as long as it is regular and deposited to your checking account. Policies differ by lender.
Will a recent bankruptcy disqualify me?
An active bankruptcy generally disqualifies you with Personify and most lenders. A discharged bankruptcy may be acceptable depending on how long ago it was.
Do I need a co-signer?
No. Personify loans are individual, unsecured loans; co-signers are not part of the product.
Does Personify verify employment by calling my employer?
Rarely. Income is verified through your bank account; employer contact is unusual.
Can I apply if I'm paid in cash?
Only if that cash is deposited regularly to the checking account you link. Undeposited cash income is invisible to verification.
Is there a minimum income for Personify?
None published. Offers are sized to the income and cash flow the lender can verify.
Can I get a Personify loan with no bank account?
No. A personal checking account is required for verification, deposit and repayment.
Does Personify lend to 18-year-olds?
Yes, 18 is the minimum age (19 in Alabama and Nebraska by state law for contracts; Alabama is a lending state, so expect 19 there).
