Quick answer

Personify loans are unsecured personal installment loans of $500–$15,000 at 36.00%–179.50% APR, repaid over 12–48 months, offered by Personify Financial (Applied Data Finance, LLC) mostly through its bank partner First Electronic Bank. They are legitimate, fast (next-day funding), bad-credit friendly — and expensive. This page explains the product and lets you request a loan through our independent lender network.

What a Personify loan is

Personify offers exactly one product: a fixed-rate, unsecured installment loan. You receive a lump sum, repay it in equal scheduled payments (monthly, semi-monthly or bi-weekly), and nothing is pledged as collateral. There are no lines of credit, no payday loans, no title loans, no credit cards and no business loans. Funds can be used for almost any personal purpose except business or post-secondary education.

Who is behind Personify

Personify Financial is the consumer brand of Applied Data Finance, LLC, a San Diego fintech founded in 2014 with a correspondence address in Dallas. Its marketing site moved from personifyfinancial.com to personify.com. State-licensed subsidiaries (ADF of Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri and others) lend directly in some states, while First Electronic Bank, a Utah-chartered, FDIC-insured industrial bank, originates loans in most states. In 2026 Personify also added a "Lead Generator and Information Sharing Disclosure" stating that applicants it cannot approve are referred to Participating Creditors, from whom it may be compensated.

Our read: Personify is a real, regulated lender that is cheaper than a payday loan and far more expensive than prime credit. The "rent-a-bank" criticism is about price and state-law evasion, not fraud. If you take the loan, you will get the money and you will owe exactly what the agreement says.

Watch for impostors. Scammers imitate well-known lender names. Personify never asks for an upfront fee, gift cards or wire transfers to 'release' a loan. Its only application site is personify.com. This site (personifyfinancialusa.com) is an independent request form, not Personify, and will never ask you for money.

What Personify loans cost

Personify's own examples for a $3,500, 36-month loan: about $7,429 total at 58.55% APR, $10,910 at 97.19%, and $18,699 at 177.36%, each including the 5.99% origination fee. Full breakdown on our rates & fees page; interactive version in the calculator.

Positive reviews cluster around three themes: speed (approval in minutes, money the next day), approval after other lenders said no, and courteous customer service. Negative reviews cluster around one theme: the total cost, usually discovered after the first few statements. A smaller group complains about collections contact after missed payments. That pattern is consistent across Trustpilot, BBB and the CFPB database and it matches the product: easy to get, hard to carry.

Alternatives to a Personify loan

  • Credit-union Payday Alternative Loan (PAL) — $200–$2,000, APR capped at 28%. Requires one month of membership.
  • Prime online lenders — 6%–36% APR for scores roughly 580+. Worth a soft-check before accepting anything higher.
  • Secured personal loan or secured card — collateral or a deposit buys a much lower rate.
  • Other subprime installment lenders — see Personify vs OppLoans and Personify vs NetCredit.
  • Payment plan with the creditor — hospitals, utilities and mechanics often offer 0% plans if asked.

How to request a Personify-type loan here

Go to the request form, enter the amount ($500–$15,000) and your details, and lenders in our network will show you offers. We are not Personify; if you specifically want Personify, apply at personify.com. Either way, read the total-of-payments figure before you sign.

People also ask about Personify loans

Is Personify a direct lender or a broker?

Both, depending on the state. In Georgia ADF of Georgia, LLC lends directly under a state licence. In the other 26 lending states, loans at or above 36% APR are made by First Electronic Bank and loans below 36% by participating creditors, with Personify acting as platform, underwriter and servicer — and, per its 2026 disclosure, as a paid lead generator. If you want to know who you will owe, look at the top of the loan agreement: it names the lender of record.

Does Personify help build credit?

Personify reports payment history to the major credit bureaus and gives active borrowers a free monthly FICO® score. On-time payments add positive history; a paid-in-full installment account is a modest positive. Missed payments do the opposite, and at 100%+ APR a missed payment is easy to stumble into. The credit-building benefit is real but secondary — nobody should take a 150% APR loan to build credit.

How much does a Personify loan really cost?

Personify's own examples, fee included: $3,500 over 36 months costs about $7,429 at 58.55% APR, $10,910 at 97.19% and $18,699 at 177.36%. On our representative $3,000 example at 107.54% APR over 36 months the total is about $10,140 before the fee. The honest summary: at the low end you pay back roughly double; at the high end, roughly five times.

How does the Rate Reduction program work?

Personify publishes the rules of its Rate Reduction program, and they are specific: eligible loans (APR above 35.99%, term longer than six months) get a 2-percentage-point APR cut after every six consecutive months of on-time payments — that is 6 monthly, 12 semi-monthly or 13 bi-weekly payments. Earned reductions are permanent even if you later pay late, but a late payment restarts the six-month clock for the next cut. The APR will not go below 24.00%, and the reduction takes effect the day after the qualifying payment. Personify can change or end the program at its discretion.

Worked example: a 48-month loan at 120% APR with perfect payments would step to 118%, 116%, 114% and so on — eight cuts over the term, ending around 104%. Meaningful, but not transformative; it does not turn a subprime loan into a cheap one. Paying off early saves far more.

What are common mistakes with Personify loans?

  • Choosing the longest term for the lowest payment. At these rates, 48 months can double the total cost versus 24.
  • Not reading the total-of-payments box. Reviewers who complain about cost almost always say they looked at the monthly payment only.
  • Borrowing the offered maximum instead of the needed amount. Offers are sized to what you can repay, not what you should borrow.
  • Letting autopay bounce. An NSF fee from the lender plus one from your bank, and a reset of the rate-reduction clock.
  • Not checking cheaper options first. A soft inquiry with a prime lender or credit union costs nothing.

What do Reddit and review sites say?

Trustpilot (4.8/5, 12,800+ reviews) skews heavily positive because reviews are invited at funding. SuperMoney's uninvited community reviews run the other way — 53 of 63 do not recommend — with complaints about front-loaded interest, a $5,000 loan that became ~$14,700 owed, slow funding when verification failed, and limited hardship help. Reddit threads echo both: fast and easy to get, painful to carry. The pattern is consistent enough that we treat it as the product's character rather than noise.

Who should consider a Personify loan?

Someone with a low-500s to low-600s score, verifiable income, a checking account, an urgent need between $500 and $15,000, no access to a credit union or prime lender, and a concrete plan to repay early. Someone who fails any of those tests should keep looking — including through our request form, which reaches lenders at both ends of the price range.

Are Personify loans legit?

Yes. Personify Financial is a real lender operated by Applied Data Finance, LLC, with an A+ BBB rating and a 4.8/5 Trustpilot score from more than 12,800 reviews. It has also been criticised by consumer groups for high-cost lending through a bank partner. Legitimate and expensive are both true.
